If I were to write a poem

To encase the case of client care,

I might write about how bad

Good clinicians become when unaware.

What should a therapist be thinking

When sitting in the power of their chair?

Is it right to point out failures and defects,

As if goodness is found when wrongness is compared?

Whatever be the pillars of healing,

Nothing works like the choice to care.

Yet for many creatures, choosing love

Is impossible – why is it scary to care?

Dressed in pressed clothes;

A rigged body fills a judgmental chair.

Is this a space where a person being can embrace

Their deepest distress for which they are there to embrace?

I know I know nothing;

Such that answering this question I do not dare.

Humbly I honor all of my clients,

And may I treat each one as each one – with tender, loving care.
